Arts & Scraps Presents Green Family Fun!

Join the fun in the Arts & Scraps Green Family Fun Tent!  For just $2.50 (4 event tickets) in Chrysler Arts, Beats & Eats Food & Beverage Tickets Kids can participate in ALL of the activities below. 

  •  Skyscraper Wars
    The whole family can work in this carpeted area to see how high they can build their skyscraper.   They can be taken home or left as part of our city of the future.  Pictures will be taken if desired and posted online for downloading. 
  • Sparkling Pendants
    Create designs on oval foam adhesive shapes with silver and bright colors and attach to yarn for a pendant.  Then use the pulley to send them 30 feet to the other side of the tent and make patterns by dipping them in different colors of sand.
  • Ball & Cup Toss
    This folk toy uses cardboard cones from thread as a base.  Create designs with peel and stick vinyl and adhesive foam shapes. 
  • Take a Break
    Seating for weary parents!
  • Bell Chimes
    Play on the tube chimes created from scrap PVC and jingle bells.
  • Weave a Maze
    Any Arts, Beats & Eats participant can work together to create a 30 x 40 maze made of tube sock scraps.  Walk the walk and see what you can find!

Children of all ages will enjoy the interactive fun of the kids stage!  With a variety of performances through out the day, relax at the Kids Stage for family fun!

Performer Information

  • Smudge Fundaes: This multi award-winning musical entertainment duo has just won the 2008 Canadian Childrens Entertainment Award along with the National Parents Choice award and iParenting Media (Hot) award too!  Very popular and in huge demand, this fast paced, grooving musical kids concert provides lots of audience participation.  Performances will have everyone asking for more!
  • Steve Belliveau:  NEW!  Steve is presenting Getting Excited about Science.  His science shows include large props, music, humor, audience participation and more.  He has appeared on TV, Radio, Worlds of Wonder Childrens Museum, Midland Center for the Arts, and Richmond Science Center.  As quoted by quoted by the Chicago Tribune, Accompanied by a steady chorus of oohs and aahs and an occasional awesome.
  • Chris Linn:  His fast-paced, high-energy performance is packed with lots of colorful magic, light hearted comedy, and audience participation.  Chris can be seen across the country at places like Cedar Point, Disney World and more!
  • Gratitude Steel Band:  This is a family of musicians that will have your group on their feet!  Conga line, limbo, hoola hoops, line dancing, hokey pokey, Caribbean songs, jazz, they have it all!  Lots of instruments will be available for the kids to participate too!

 

  • Kevin Kammeraad:  Author, Artist, Poet and performer, Kevin will catch the rhythm of the arts through Poetry, Puppetry and Music.  Kevin is the author of the popular Tomato Collection and a Curious Glimpse of Michigan books.  He will fascinate everyone with his show!

 

  • Vikki Gasko:  Families will love this fun-filled variety show will Vikkis cast of NEW characters.  Vikki uses her award winning ventriloquism with laughter, silliness and joy, along with lots of audience participation.  Also, enjoy her new shows Catch the Reading Bug and a Sing-a-long Variety Fun Show.

 

  • Ben Spitzer:  Meet Ben, a master at juggling and magic.  His humor will hit all ages.  Ben offers lots of audience participation and surprises.  Ben offers two workshops (balloon animals and juggling lessons) that the whole audience can participate in.  Ben always has the audience laughing hysterically!

Attention All Aspiring Performers Ages 4-13!
Just about everyone has a youthful dream of growing up to be a Pop Star. Chrysler Arts, Beats & Eats has teamed up with Flagstar Bank and Metro Parent Magazine to help make a few dreams come true at the 2008 Kids Talent Quest. Similar to Fox Television's huge hit "American Idol", the Kids Talent Quest is a unique opportunity for children to strut their stuff on stage!

A Great Event
Grand Prizes will be awarded to the top two talented performers, chosen from two different age groups, ages 4-8 and ages 9-13.  The grand prizes in each category win a $500 savings bond.  The two grand prize winners will also be featured on WDIV Local 4 News, WNIC Radio and in the October issue of Metro Parent Magazine. 

Rules and Regulations
Contestants ages 4-8 will have 90 seconds to perform their talent (i.e. singing, dancing, dramatics, magic, juggling etc.) Kids ages 9-13 will have 3 minutes for their performance.  Cassettes and CDs can be supplied for accompaniment.  Judged by Major Management Productions, winners will be picked based on talent, presentation and audience response, so bring along a cheering section!  Grand prize winners will be announced on Local 4 News and WNIC Radio Wednesday September 3rd.  Good Luck!!

How to Enter
To guarantee a space in the show, pre-registration is recommended but not required. Kids can register to perform on Friday at 4, 6 or 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 1, 3, 5 or 7 p.m., or Monday at 1, 3 or 5 p.m. There is no charge for registration and admission Arts, Beats & Eats is free!
